Genre Advice

Just another quick update.  I was hoping to have the last edit of Forsaken done tomorrow but things have been really busy while we are still in Utah so I'm not quite there.  I'm about 1/3 of the way done at this point so I should be done by Saturday.  Almost there!  I'll order a proof copy I am hoping by Thursday of next week after we get back home to the island.

Now, I've had major Eden stuff on my mind lately and I've been thinking about something.  This is a new genre for me and I'm kinda uneducated in this area.  I'm really not sure what exactly the genre is for Eden.  It's a YA cause the main MC is 17, then turns 18.  It's a scifi, a dystopian, a post-apocalyptic.  But I can't say all that when I have to tell everyone what genre my new project is.

So, what would you guys say?  I haven't talked too much about what Eden is about but I'll try to spit it all out here.  Sorry, I haven't come up with a good sounding synopsis yet...

The world has fallen to a cybernetic disease that was created to save millions of lives.  A new technology was created that was meant to infuse with human DNA and be specific to a person's genetic makeup.  It was meant to be used to grow new organs, grow new limbs, etc.  But it got out of hand.  It started spreading to other parts of peoples bodies and eventually it started spreading to other people as well.  Within a year 93% of the population fell to the "infection."  They were more machine than human and the cybernetics totally took control of them.

Those left have banded together in colonies.  The one I focus on is called "Eden".  This is where Eve, my MC lives.  Even though she's so young, she's a leader and the people there rely on her to help protect them.  She's been a bit of a rock for as long as she can remember and all she can focus on is keeping everyone alive, as there are still "hunters" out there that try and track them down so everyone will be infected.  Then comes along West.  Eve isn't sure she can trust him but to her surprise, Eve starts to develop feelings for him.  At the same time, her best friend she has known for as long as she can remember starts to develop an interest in her.

But there are complications.  Eve can't remember anything about her life before she was 8 years old or how she came to be in Eden.  West seems to know something about her past but after she finds out what happened to her, she wonders if it would be best if she'd never found out at all.  As all this is happening, the "hunters" are becoming more aggressive and no one is safe anymore.  Humans are about to become extinct.

So, what genre would you peg this as?  And after reading the description, is it something that really grabs you?

To help you get a feel for one aspect of the story, here's the book trailer I made a few months back.  And I do have almost the entire first half up on my website.  It's all rough first draft but if you want to read it it will be up for another few days.  I will be taking it down as soon as I get home.  You can find it HERE.

Picking the genre is HARD. I have yet to pick Prison Nation's genre either.

As far as Eden goes... it seems, as awesome as dystopians and post-apocolyptic novels are, they have yet to fully earn their own genre listing. So... you could list it as a YA SciFi. Both of those are sub genres of SciFi, so it would seem a safe bet...

I think I'd go with YA Sci Fi.
And I can't wait to get more Eden!!!

Thanks for your advice everyone! I have been leaning YA dystopian as well. Thanks for the compliments on the cover as well! I'm still trying to track down the creator of the actual eye part. If you happen to know who it is please let me know!

I really like the synopsis!
I'm all for sci-fi/dystopian and I was a huge fan of BSG, because hello Cylons! XD
It kinda reminds me of that but in a YA sort of way, which is great! :)

I'd definitely pick it up!
I think I'd consider it a mixture of: YA, Dystopian, Sci-Fi, post-apocalyptic...
Hmm, we need a new word for that!
How about Ydysfipost? *g*
Meh, I always ramble in the morning.
