I've gotten a good amount of writing done the last two days (well, a good amount for me...) and I am quite happy with how it's gone. I was a little unsure of how to transition into this part of the book and even though the timeline was shorter than I initially planned I think it worked out really well. And perhaps a little bit of a spoiler alert here but I just have to say I'm glad Alex is back. It's true when authors say they love their characters so I'm glad one of my favorites is back from California (that probably doesn't make any sense unless you're reading along ; ) ). I'd love it if you'd all check out my recent stuff and let me know what you think! And again, it's all first draft so keep that in mind!
Thanks!

The birth of characters
I was thinking about this while writing yesterday. Characters, at least for me, seem to be born into my head with their own personalities and sometimes there is nothing I can do to change that. I started writing this new project with a good idea of how I wanted the main hero's personality to be but when I started writing it it came out completely different! I tried to steer it back to how I had thought it would be originally but it just didn't work. It was quite a shock to realize this has happened with pretty much all my characters.
Take Katherine in Ever Burning for example. She was originally supposed to be like a head strong sister to William but she ended up being kind of a weak, clingy annoyance that just came with Daniel.
In this new book Sal ended up slightly crazier than I originally thought she would be. And Alex, the main guy was supposed to be this kind hearted, romantic fellow but he's actually a very outspoken, blunt guy that knows no boundaries. That changed things quite a bit.
Another thing is that they also seem to be born with their own stories and backgrounds. I don't have to think about it too much most of the time. It just comes out naturally. Like with Sal especially. She had a very strong background story that was so easy to convey.
I'm happy to say this new book I am working on is coming along nicely. Once I get writing it seems to come out much more naturally than Ever Burning but it is quite a simpler plot. But in a good way. I can't wait to see where this new adventure in writing takes me!
